Shooting Film

Hey there :)

I decided to bring my Pentax out to play on Thursday at the last Art Stroll.  I was feeling experimental after reading a tutorial on double exposures :)  However... the tutorial I read did not work properly, so I ended up with a bunch of split exposures.  Even though they didn't come out exactly how I dreamed, they are still interesting. Here are a few of them.

I also took some regular exposures around the Art Stroll.

Post stroll eats at Sam & Greg's. They have great pizza and gelato.

That's it for my film photos. The next roll of double exposed film will be proper doubles. I can't wait. I think I'm going to plan out the shots before so that they are specific and not just of my lap and a plant... lol. I hope you had a wonderful day.

Not So Blue Monday #8

Hi there :)

This Not So Blue Monday started off with me waking up anxious, nervous, nauseous, and dragging my feet into the office.

Now how does this beginning still count as a NSB Monday? It's because this day was honestly riddled with good things. Let's count them down :)

I turned in two applications for jobs at Oakwood.  The hardest part about knowing that your current job is ending in less than a week, is trusting that God will move in His time.  I spoke to both departments with positions to be filled and hopefully one will come through for me much sooner rather than later... One is a job I can do and one with a job that I want to do...  Oh yeah, I practically burst into tears while talking with the director of the PR department where I want to work... She said it's ok and shows my passion.

After work, Cherie & John picked me up and we all went to see the 911 Reporters downtown in the park. The concert was awesome & I got a bunch of really fun shots.

I finished spinning the pink roving last evening & soaked/hung it overnight. So this evening, I plied the brown I spun with the pink. It looks nice & I discovered plying is much easier than spinning since there's no drafting :)  I'm calling it 'Strawberry Quick.'  I don't think I have enough to really make anything of substance, but it's my first handspun & plied yarn! Hurray!

Doggy cuddles... My dogs decided that I was spending too much time working on my yarn and writing, so they pulled a hostile takeover of my roving and lap.

Toot says, "Pay attention to meee! Look I can spin it too!"

This is us not caring about what you though you were doing.  Your lap is ours!

All in all, it ended up being a pleasant day despite the shaky ground it began with. I hope you had a nice Monday.

Thursday, Friday Happy Days!

Afternoon!

The past couple of days have been highlighted by some pretty awesome experiences for me :) I wanted to write about them earlier, but I was soo tuckered out from all the running around that I passed out both nights.

First, Thursday was the first Sidewalk Arts Stroll of the summer.  The Stroll happens each third Thursday of May - August.  It was really nice, but the best part was meeting these two ladies.

Both of these ladies were very helpful when I told them that I just learned how to spin at Panoply a few weeks ago.  They gave me tips on drafting (which seems to be my biggest spinning hiccup) and some info on upcoming fiber arts festivals & other yarn-lovin' goings on.  They also gave me some online resources for spinning. :)

On to Friday.  Since I work at an SDA school, my Friday shift ends at noon so I have a few hours to get errands run or finish the church bulletin before Sabbath.  Often times, Lamar & I will use that time to find new spots in Huntsville.  Yesterday, we went to the farmer's market for some local honey (I have pesky allergies & he has asthma). After checking out the produce, I wanted to find a yarn shop called Fiber Artworks & he, so graciously, agreed.

It was a bit troublesome to find since my only directions were "it's on Governor's"... But finally, after searching Google & taking the directions on her facebook page- we found her lovely shop.

I have NO idea how we missed the huge yarn ball & knitting needles on the front :)

I didn't take any pictures inside, but the owner, Mrs. Anastasia was really friendly & helpful.  I really liked that the first thing she asked was what I did (crochet, knit, spin, felt...).  It's great to know that there are talented ladies that are willing to help me with my fledgling knitting & spinning.

Crafternoon 4: Arts in Action

During day 3 of Panoply, Lamar & I stopped by the Arts in Action tents & I had my first real spinning lesson!  There were 2 ladies on spinning wheels & one lady on a loom.  I have been getting more interested in learning how to spin my own yarn from fiber.  I just feel that that is the next step in my yarn crafting. So here is the nice spinner lady showing me how to use a homemade drop spindle:

Please excuse the cheesy grin on my face. I've just watched so many videos on youtube about spinning & I was super excited that yarn was being made with my own hands!!! When I asked her how to make the spindle myself, she just gave it to me o.O YAY! Plus, she gave me a bag of pink fiber... Honestly, I don't know what I would make from pink yarn, but it'll be hand spun by me pink yarn...

The spinner ladies gave me some info about where to find reasonably priced fiber in town.  Who knows, maybe I'll become a talented spinner. Yay for new skills!

So yeah, that was the Panoply Day 3 highlight :)

Panoply Arts Festival: Day 1

I am loving the fact that it is Panoply time again.  This afternoon Lamar & I walked around for like 2 hours.  We saw a really great student improv acting group called Acting Up. They were great.  Example:

101 artists walk into a restaurant. One of the artists asks the maitre'd for a table. The maitre'd turns & says, "Sorry, we don't serve your..." The artist interrupts & says, "OK, Ima let you finish, but Beyonce's video was the best video ever."

 I was impressed with the girl that came up with that one. After leaving the improv show, we spotted a juggler on stilts o.O I asked if I could take her picture & she said sure but I had to be IN it.  Then I got the bright idea to do this:

Yes, I high-fived a juggler on stilts! Woot for me, lol!  She was really friendly.  Now I want to learn to juggle... Youtube here I come :)

There is a section called the Global Village where each tent is dedicated to a particular ethnicity or nationality.  We didn't stop by any of those tents today, but we will either tomorrow or Sunday.

Lastly, we passed another street performer. One that made me so nervous, I SWORE that I'd pee my pants if she touched me!  My chest was tight for a good 10 minutes after we left her. What kind of street performer did I cross paths with???

I didn't realize that my aversion to mimes was so serious until today... I may look like I'm having the time of my life, but no... that is full on nervous freak out laughter.
